Part II
In most research projects in the field of microscopy the focus of the researcher is on the research and not so much on the specific way the data is actually described and stored for later use, as long as details of the data selected for the publication are in the manuscript or its supplementary material. However, in order to be prepared for alternative uses of the collected data, including those data which were not selected for the original publication, and to be able to comply with the rules to keep research data for at several years, it is important to describe all our data with the right metadata that it can be interpreted years after it was acquired, also by people who were not involved in the data collection. This workshop will introduce you to the concepts and tools that help you to do this without a lot of additional effort. It will introduce the application of electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), ontologies, metadata formats, and research data management platforms in the field of microscopy by presentations and hands-on tutorials.
