Prof. Dr. med. Markus Huber-Lang is Director of the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Trauma-Immunology (ITI) at the University Hospital Ulm, Germany. He graduated from Medical School at the University of Freiburg and Stony Brook University, New York, USA. His surgical education was at the University Hospital in Freiburg and Ulm, where he received 2007 his board certification as General Surgeon and Trauma Surgeon. His research focus is on the role of innate immunity in polytrauma, sepsis and multiple organ failure. After a postdoc fellowship at the Dept. of Pathology, University of Michigan, USA, he became Head of the Emmy Noether Excellence Research Group and Leader of the DFG Clinical Research Unit. In 2015 he was appointed as Full Professor for Trauma-Immunology and became Director of the ITI at the University Hospital Ulm. Since 2015 he acts as Co-Speaker of the DFG Collaborative Research Center for Trauma. In 2017-2019 he served as President of the European Shock Society and now as Founding Director of the new Multidimensional Trauma Science Building at the University of Ulm.
