Jonathan Tilsed is a senior decision maker with over 23 years’ experience as a consultant surgeon in the NHS. He has a track record of service improvement and innovation and is acknowledged to have outstanding organisation and training skills.
An articulate and gifted communicator, he has addressed large audiences at both national and international levels. He has given invited lectures in more than 20 countries and has written for scientific journals and national media.
He studied medicine at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London. After a year as the President of the University of London Union, he undertook pre-registration, basic and higher surgical training in the United Kingdom.
A keen educator, he has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level and examined for a number of universities in the UK and abroad. He led the working group that established the Division of Emergency Surgery and the European Board of Surgery Qualification in Emergency Surgery for the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). He has also project managed and moderated a series of 28 online webinars.
He is a former President of ESTES and served on its management board for 12 years.
He currently chairs the Board of Governors of Pocklington School.
