Abstract

Introduction

As part of the "OER (open educational resources) for ENT" project, a cross-site cooperation model for the resource-efficient creation and evaluation of teaching materials was tested. A blended learning module "vertigo" was developed in collaboration between doctors and students. The module includes digital resources to prepare for bedside teaching (BST), handouts for the face-to-face part and digital content for follow-up and skills assessment.

Material and methods

Implementation and evaluation in BST took place from Jan. to Sept. 2024 at the University Medicine Greifswald. Students first completed a digital preparation module, followed by a face-to-face seminar and a digital follow-up. This format was evaluated by means of a pre-post survey, which included both a subjective self-assessment and theoretical knowledge questions. A total of 110 students were included in the statistical analysis.

Results

Both an increase in the subjective assessment of competence and an objective increase in competence could be measured among the students. The distribution of the project components across different locations enabled effective use of the resources available in each case. Additional resources were conserved by involving student assistants in the creation of digital teaching and learning materials.

Discussion

Blended learning formats are ideal for cross-location teaching collaborations. Publishing a teaching module as OER not only enables broad use, but also versioning by third parties. Further modules on study-related topics are currently being developed.
