Introduction:
The Solitary Plasmocytoma of the larynx is a rare condition with only few case reports described in literature. It constitutes 0.2% to all malignancies of the larynx. 1
Case Presentation:
We present the case of a 75- year- old woman who presented herself in January 2023 as an outpatient with a progressive dysphonia persisting since November 2022. The patient negates dysphagia as well as B- symptoms and is a non-smoker. She didn"t have contact to any noxious agents.
She underwent a medical examination with laryngeal stroboscopy which showed missing vocal fold oscillation of the right vocal fold. An immobile part of the right vocal fold in the front and middle third without inflammation signs was seen. A suspicious pachydermia of that area was diagnosed. A panendoscopy was indicated to receive a biopsy of the suspicious area of the right vocal fold.
The histological examination showed a Plasma Cell Neoplasia with amyloid, as well as a Kappa- light chain- restriction. A serotest showed no increment of light chains. The immunofixation electrophoresis resulted negative as well.
A PET scan in showed metabolic activity of the right vocal fold, without any other FDG- avid lesions.
The bone marrow punction in September resulted negative as well.
Our Interdisciplinary Tumor Board made the recommendation of radiotherapy as well as regular follow ups by the departments of Phoniatrics and Haemato- Oncology.
Discussion:
This case describes a rare neoplasia of the larynx with its diagnostic pathway. The outcome remains to be seen. Leaning on the other case reports the prognosis seems to be rather good.
